How to Add Subject Endorsements to Your Certification in Washington D.C.

Can I add additional subject endorsements in Washington, D.C.?

• Yes, additional subject endorsements can be added to your certification by following these steps.
  1. Decide on the additional subject area you want to add to your license.
  2. Take the related Praxis content exam. If the PLT is different from your Standard license PLT, then align the appropriate exam to the grade range
  3. Add the endorsement application to your existing Standard license application in the DC OSSE system. You can apply for both at the same time. These are separate applications. 
  4. Label the subject area correctly — it must be listed as "endorsement", not as a standard subject.
  5. Upload the relevant Praxis or subject exams for the endorsement area as required. The information from your Standard license will populate the endorsement application. 
• Please note that the FBI background check must be dated within 12 months of the application.
